"You've met with a terrible fate haven't you?" -The Happy Mask Salesman
One of the creepiest lines in video game history. Said by one of the creepiest characters in video game history.
If you had told the ten-year-old me that the Happy Mask Salesman would end up being one of my favorite video game characters, I would have looked at you like you were insane. I hated this guy as a kid. He freaked me out. Now that I'm replaying Majora's Mask as an adult, I find him to be quite mysterious. Just who exactly is he? What is he? What are his intentions? Just how did he come to possess Majora's Mask in the first place and HOW THE HECK CAN HE MAKE AN ORGAN APPEAR OUT OF THIN AIR?!! There are A LOT of theories on the internet: He's a sheika. He's part of the original tribe that sealed Majora's Mask, so on and so forth. They're all just speculation, but it's fun to read the different theories.
It's such a shame there isn't more art of him, he's such an unappreciated Zelda character, especially when compared to some of the more popular characters like Link and Midna, but I like this guy.
Before you ask, YES that IS Mario hitching a ride on his backpack.
Yes, I know his eyes are black in-game, but I made them red for that extra bit of creepiness
Ok, let me just start off and say that the lighting is AMAZING! The way you accented his facial features and the hair is fantastic. I also like how it seems the mask is glowing and it kind of draws your attention to the mask first, before looking at everything else. You also managed to add immense detail! Like all of his clothes and the items on his back, as well as the mask! It looks exactly the same! By not adding too much detail to the background or the floor, you made sure that all attention is focused on the mask and the salesman. That's a great technique. I remember how much this dude creeped me out in the game when I first played it and you've definitely captured the quirkiness of this guy! Well done. I love it!
